Bone Broth Rethunk…I mean Rethought. Broth Revolution. Seriously, A Different Way to Make Broth.

My emphatic title is due to the frustration I felt when searching for ideas to make my broth more interesting. Paucity is the term I would, on judicious reflection, employ. There is a paucity of broth recipes out there.  I speak as one who not only scouts and scours Google search entries, but who also owns Nourishing Traditions and a 400-page soup cookbook with a whole chapter devoted to broths and stocks.  Here’s how they all go: But some bones and meat in a pot with a little vinegar and… Read more Bone Broth Rethunk…I mean Rethought. A Rather Heckish Day

I must be brief. I feel I’m starving, and none of this fare my husband likes to call “rabbit food” seems tolerable at the moment. After wrestling with Johnny for hours on end I’ve been overtaken by the urge to replenish my emotional welbeing by eating something warm and savory and very, very lonely. But a word is enough on a subject so mind-splitting. Soon I must go and hunt down my missing husband and when I find him (frolicking with his brothers, no doubt) I am going to leave… Read more A Rather Heckish Day

Food, Mainly. Also, The Writer’s Test of OK-ness.

Good day, my fine friends. This morning finds me full of hope that you woke alert and pain free at a decent hour. I was in bed by eleven and since I forgot to buy wine the new year arrived in a very small, slumberish kind of way. Yesterday, despite my good intentions, I never had enough free minutes to write to you. I’m sure you survived, and that is my consolation for failure. I spent most of the day working on a story I wanted to get off to a contest before the deadline.… Read more Food, Mainly. Also, The Writer’s Test of OK-ness.

Google Searches that Brought Me Readers II: Getting Kids to Eat Eggs

For kid-friendly egg recipe scroll to the bottom of the post.  I continue to be amazed by the search phrases that bring people to my blog. Just to reassure everyone, there’s no indication who made the search or where they were coming from, at least not that I know how to or care how to find. Last time I wrote about the amusing search “mean poems to say to enemies” and obligingly put up a few. Since then not a day goes by when I don’t get three or four… Read more Google Searches that Brought Me Readers II: Getting Kids to Eat Eggs

Getting Kids to Eat, Lesson Two: Using Water

Johnny has been eating eggs a lot lately but I’ve been worried he hasn’t been getting enough carbs. Apparently Cheerios are now too boring to eat. And I know well that trying to force a kid to eat something is the surest way to make him loathe that thing forever.  This morning I tried a trick – whisking eggs, milk, and a little flavoring with some soft shredded bread. As I cooked it and noticed how mushy it was turning out I began to dread trying to get Johnny to… Read more Getting Kids to Eat, Lesson Two: Using Water
