Yoohoo Taste-Alike Recipe
I don’t know that this is any healthier or cheaper than actual Yoohoo. I do know it’s incredibly refreshing and you don’t have to leave the house and drive to the gas station for it if you have the ingredients.
In a shallow dish, add a very few drops of milk to one teaspoon of plain Hershey’s baking cocoa. Mash it into a paste and allow it to sit, soaking up moisture during the next few steps.
In a glass quart-sized canning jar, add ice up to the 1-cup line.
Add milk up to the 2-cup line.
Add unflavored Pedialyte (electrolyte mixture) to the 3-cup line.
Add cocoa paste.
Add Nestle Chocolate Milk Powder to taste – approximately 8 to 10 tablespoons.
Close the jar, turning the lid tightly.
Shake furiously until all powder and paste has incorporated, and mixture has turned very cold. Serve before ice fully melts.
Serves 2 or 3. Enjoy!
Note: You can mix up your own electrolyte mixture by adding a quarter-teaspoon of baking soda or table salt in equal amounts with potassium salt-substitute, and a tablespoon of sugar, to a quart of water. You can also add a few drops of magnesium or other electrolyte supplement if you have it.
Fresh lemonade is also a great natural electrolyte drink, but you have to drink it within 10 minutes of cutting open the lemon if you want any of the Vitamin C to be left.
